Do I want a baby? A difficult decision for a lot of women!

I read an interesting article in the Times from yesterday about baby planning and whether to go for it or not and when.

It was a very recognisable situation as we have been through the same process whereby we did not think about children for a long time and suddenly I got very broody - out of the blue.

Anyway, as you probably read from my blog, we have been going through the journey to try to get pregnant and it has not been an easy ride. So, I would say to think very carefully about delaying mother/parenthood as you don't know how fertile you are till you start. Alternatively, I suppose you can do some tests upfront so you have a better idea and maybe this helps to make the decision. I know for sure that a lot of fertility clinics offer a fertility assesement so why not contact your nearest fertility clinic.

Of course, you can always start with preparing your body and make sure your body and mind are ready for when you are ready so you don't lose any further time.

Have a read of the article and I hope it helps you to decide on your next baby step.

Baby planning & becoming a mum - Introduction

In response to some of the recent blogs, I thought it would be useful to start a blog, the aim of which is to look at the changes and challenges that specifically face expectant and new mums. We’ll look at such issues as planning for a baby all the way through to being a new mum and considering going back to work. We all know mums have a number of roles to play. They are not just a mum, but also might be a wife, lover, friend, employee, daughter, and not forgetting being their own person either! Juggling these roles isn’t easy and it takes a bit of adapting to cope with the change and shift in emphasis that comes with being a mum.

If you’re hoping to start a family soon you’ll no doubt be considering how a baby will impact your life. Planning for change can fall into 3 main stages through this exciting journey:

1) Preparation – Is now the right time? Consider your health, age, financial stability and whether there are other things you want to accomplish in your life.
2) When You’re Pregnant – Planning to maintain a healthy and enjoyable pregnancy, being aware of how you’re changing physically and emotionally.
3) Life After Birth – Coping with the new arrival, deciding if you’re going to go back to work, child care issues, adapting to your new lifestyle and new roles.

In the first blog, we’ll look in more detail about the first of these stages.
